A note from me
Hi again! It’s me, Maya.
Last Friday we practiced naming our mad. But sometimes naming Zip isn’t enough — he keeps spinning big. So this week I’m showing you what I do next: my Calm-Down Menu.
Mad isn’t bad. Mad is information.
This week’s check-in
How big is your mad right now?
Mine’s a 3 today — Zip’s a little extra. Tap the number that matches yours.
Pick your number — there’s no wrong one.
Tool of the week — The Calm-Down Menu
When Zip is really spinning, naming him isn’t always enough. That’s when I pick something off my Calm-Down Menu. There’s no wrong choice — pick what helps:
โ๏ธ Cool Down — a sip of cold water or a cool cloth.
๐จ Body Shake-Out — shake the mad out of your arms and legs.
๐ฃ๏ธ Tell Someone — find a grown-up and use your words.
Try one this week when your number gets big. See which one is yours.
Feeling word of the week
annoyed
Annoyed is a small, buzzy kind of mad — like when someone keeps tapping the table, or a song gets stuck in your head. It’s usually a 1 or a 2 on the tornado scale. Small mads count too.
My friends, the feeling folk
This week, say hi to my friend Nico. His big feeling is worry, and his feeling folk is a dragon named Mr. Wobble. Dr. Reyes calls us all the feeling folk — because feelings aren’t enemies, they’re just feelings hanging out. Nico’s notebook is coming soon:
Your turn
Draw your feeling friend.
Last week you drew your feeling friend. This week, draw what it looks like when it gets big — a 4 or a 5. Then draw it calm again, after a tool from the menu. Same friend, two sizes.
Draw and color right on the screen — a grown-up can save the picture when it’s done. (No screen? Print this page and use paper.)
