A note from me
Hey again! It’s me, Maya.
Last week we built a Calm-Down Menu for when Zip gets big. This week I’m letting you in on a secret about mad — one that took me a long time to figure out.
Mad isn’t bad. Mad is information.
This week’s check-in
How big is your mad right now?
Mine’s a 2 today — pretty calm. Tap the number that matches yours.

Tool of the week — Mad in Disguise
Here’s a secret about mad: a lot of the time, it’s wearing a costume. Zip shows up loud and spinning — but underneath, the real feeling is something quieter.
Mad loves to cover up sad, scared, hurt, embarrassed, tired, or left out. When I find the one hiding underneath and name that feeling, Zip gets a lot smaller.
This week, when you feel mad, peek under the costume. Ask: is there a different feeling hiding under there?
Feeling word of the week
embarrassed
Embarrassed is that hot-face feeling when you mess up in front of people, or somebody laughs and you’re not sure why. It’s sneaky — it’s one of the feelings that loves to hide under mad.
My friends, the feeling folk
This week, say hi to my friend August — everyone calls him Auggie. His big feeling is sad, and his feeling folk is a little rain cloud named Drizzle. Dr. Reyes calls us all the feeling folk — because feelings aren’t enemies, they’re just feelings hanging out. August’s notebook is coming soon:
Your turn
Draw your feeling friend.
Draw your mad in its costume — big and loud on the outside. Then, in a little bubble, draw the feeling that’s hiding underneath. Two feelings, one picture.
Draw and color right on the screen — a grown-up can save the picture when it’s done. (No screen? Print this page and use paper.)
