A note from me
Hey — it’s Maya again.
Last week we peeked under the mad costume to find the feeling hiding underneath. This week: what do you do once you’ve found it? You say it out loud — and I’ve got a magic sentence that makes it way easier.
Mad isn’t bad. Mad is information.
This week’s check-in
How big is your mad right now?
Mine’s a 3 today — somebody took my spot in line. Tap the number that matches yours.
Pick your number — there’s no wrong one.
Tool of the week — The Magic Sentence
Once you find the feeling hiding under your mad, here’s how to tell somebody about it. I use a magic sentence. It has three parts:
“I feel ______ when ______ because ______.”
Like: “I feel left out when you play without me, because I want a turn too.” Try it this week — it even works on grown-ups.
Feeling word of the week
left out
Left out is that achy feeling when everybody else is playing and somebody forgot to include you — at recess, at lunch, in a game. It’s one of the quiet feelings that can hide under mad.
My friends, the feeling folk
This week, say hi to my friend Iris. Her big feeling shows up at bedtime, when worries get loud in the dark. Her feeling folk is a tangly little yarn ball named Tug. Dr. Reyes calls us all the feeling folk — because feelings aren’t enemies, they’re just feelings hanging out. Iris’s notebook is coming soon:
Your turn
Draw your feeling friend.
Make a tiny comic of your magic sentence — three little boxes: the feeling, what happened, and why. Stick figures totally count.
Draw and color right on the screen — a grown-up can save the picture when it’s done. (No screen? Print this page and use paper.)
